Quality Teaching; Reflection as the Heart of Practice
Published in Paperback by Scarecrow Press (20 July, 2003)
Author: Joelle Kristin Jay
Average review score:

Enhancing Teacher Performance
The case studies in this book clearly highlight the difficulties teachers face in the workplace and the lack of time that is allocated to thinking and reflecting on their performance. The case studies demonstrate the benefits reflection has on enhanced teacher performance, which in turn contributes to more effective learning for students. Lessons learned from this research can be structured in the school setting to enhance teacher performance and student achievement.

A "MUST HAVE" For All Teachers!!
Critically engaging, direct, and rich with real-life examples, "Reflection" is a must-read for in-service and pre-service teachers alike who hope to engage in meaningful learning about themselves as educators. Joelle Jay's book creates a clear dialogue on the importance of real reflective activity for all teachers, no matter how long they have served in schools. While reading, I found myself stopping to consider how my own practice as a classroom teacher fit in to the larger picture. This is truly an important work!

Even though I have engaged in reflective practice since becoming a classroom teacher, Joelle Jay's book opened my eyes to many new levels of reflective activities -- activities that would make me a more effective instructor, peer, and student advocate. Joelle Jay has taken small moments from the lives of four master teachers and turned them into a mirror for all teachers. The book is a thoughtful and definitive work on the importance of reflection for all educators. Critically detailed and impeccably reseached, Joelle Jay caused me to have so many moments of "Aha!" that the people sitting next to me at Starbucks finally had to ask what I was reading.

"A primer for great teaching," was my reply.

Quick Change
Published in Hardcover by Doubleday (June, 1981)
Author: Jay Cronley
Average review score:

funny!!!!!!!
I discovered Jay Cronley at the tender age of twelve. I had just started reading adult books when I came across Quick Change. I'm twenty-five and have read many books but Quick Change remains the all time funniest book in my library. If you enjoy madcap comedy chase scenes and surprise endings, you will love this book!!! Even ten times better than Elmore Leonard!!!! And funnier than looney tunes.

Finf this book
The funniest book I have ever read. Avoid the awful movie this was turned into.

Author: Jay O'Callahan

Great family entertainment!
We first heard this story when my children were very young. They loved it so much that we listened to it over and over. Every once in awhile I'd overhear them retelling parts of it, or shouting out "Raspberries!" as Jay does on the tape. It is a truly wonderful, magical, captivating story, which I am now ordering for my nieces and nephews.

This tape is so well done that our family is riveted. Great!
This tape is so well done that our family is riveted every time we listen. Great for all ages who have any attention span at all. His voices are the best!

Reuben Snake, Your Humble Serpent: Indian visionary and activist
Published in Hardcover by Clear Light Pub (March, 1996)
Authors: Jay C. Fikes, Reuben Snake, James Botsford, and Walter Echo-Hawk
Average review score:

Inter-acting with enlightment
a wonderful example how things come to be when you humble yourself and engage in the spirit of selflessness. The way the subject expresses himself of his experinces and the dramatic confrontations he was part of.Rueben throws light on the true nature and energy of a given circumstance.Withholding ego ,rationality he exudes clarity.

Fascinating life-story of a humble and compassionate serpent
What is dangerous for some people can be sacred and useful for the others who can utilize that and we should respect those. Jay Fikes' book proved this true for me for peyote, a sacred cactus for Native Americans and pschedelic drug for others who do not know how to use it.

Moreover, I was deeply impressed with the Native American character Reuben Snake. This brave, compassionate man inspired me about how to live in harmony with the nature, the world and all that dwell theron. He showed me that the obstacles are in our minds and if we overcome these there will be no obstacles at all.

This book also helps many realize "Being Indian is being a human being and human beings deserve respect for what they believe, for their religions, cultures, etc."

Jay Fikes had done a wonderful job by introducing this humble serpent to our lives.

The Rise and Fall of Diamonds: The Shattering of a Brilliant Illusion
Published in Hardcover by Simon & Schuster (May, 1982)
Author: Edward Jay Epstein
Average review score:

DeBeers' Unveiling
This book knocks the legs out of the diamond industry. What appears elegant and elite turns out to be a down and dirty industry, selling tainted, overpriced products. And they've maintained a monopoly during generations of anti-trust measures!

This book is very readable and very entertaining. I wrote a report on the subject for a MBA class which got great reviews. I'm inclined to think it was as much for the shocking truths which were revealed as much as my superior writing skills! I'd recommend this book to anyone who has ever considered purchasing a diamond.

An unparallelled insight and history
This is an unparallelled history on the account of a most treasured mineral which continues to live on only through the de Beerse's famous and clever phrase: "Diamonds are forever." After so many found, cut, polished and rated by the 3 c's, it's stunning one can still be duped into buying a fake. There is a Statue in Antwerp, Belgium, of Lodewijk Van Berken, Go see it! You will understand!

Robert Frost: The People, Places, and Stories Behind His New England Poetry
Published in Paperback by New England Press (August, 2001)
Authors: Jay Parini, T. S. Eliot, and Lea Bertani Vozar Newman
Average review score:

An Invaluable Companion
Leah Newman's Robert Frost: The People, Places, and Stories Behind His New England Poetry provides an invaluable companion to the beloved poetry of Robert Frost. Newman not only provides the context of Frost's personal history as a backdrop for his poetry, but also provides key literary references, literary criticism, and annotations on the reception of his work in his lifetime. The essays accompanying Frost's poems are lively and warm, often punctuated by Frost's own words. Newman brings Frost's relationships to his family and his work to life in this collection, without diminishing the richness or subtlety of his poetry. I highly recommend this volume to life-long students of Frost's work as well as newcomers.

For anyone who ever thrilled to this great man's genius
Lea Newman is able to make her reader's introduction to a major American poet easy, fun and memorable in Robert Frost: The People, Places And Stories Behind His New England Poetry. Newman's concise and informative essays accompany each of thirty-six of Frost's early New England poems including his "The Road Not Taken"; "Mending Wall"; "The Death Of The Hired Man"; and "Birches". Biographical information and his own commentaries provides insights into what Frost was doing and thinking when he wrote each poem. Newman's format of combining essay and poetry enables the reader to experience Frost's poetry with a fresh appreciation and insight. Robert Frost is "must" reading for anyone who ever thrilled to this great man's poetic genius and enduring wisdom.

Sacred Flowers: Creating a Heavenly Garden
Published in Hardcover by Beyond Words Publising (July, 1997)
Author: Roni Jay
Average review score:

Excellent Read
Out shopping for a gift for a friend's birthday, I came across this slim purple text. Perfect, I thought, for a gift. Upon opening it this book I fell in love with the simplicity and the gorgeous illustrations. Although colorful, this is not merely a coffee table book for display. It is a compact and uselful book. The information in this book is interesting, set off by the magical illustrations. However, the plants presented are not your everyday garden variety! An intersting and beautiful book. By the way, there was only one copy, so I bought it for myself...

Superficial but lovely. Is Roni Jay male or female?
Photos and drawings are beautiful and varied. The substance is a bit thin spiritually but broad in period and spiritual tradition. It's frustrating to have no indication whether Jay is "Ronald" or "Veronica."

Savage Dawn
Published in Paperback by PublishAmerica, Inc. (01 June, 2001)
Author: Jay Kraxton
Average review score:

Powerful! -- Very highly recommended
With their leader dead, the demonic Army of Darkness no longer poses a danger to the people of Karthanian. Vicious and cruel, demons only endanger those who travel alone or in small numbers; that is, until Rajah rises to power. Once one of the three magi, Rajah turned to darkness when a mind demon offered him tremendous power and glory. With his newfound supremacy, he raises the demons of Armagon to do his bidding.

Meanwhile, Ken Maxwell, nicknamed Demonslayer, still searches for his sons. Ten years ago they were kidnapped from earth, and Ken came to Karthania to find them. Jeremiah, his eldest son, underwent a horrible transformation, becoming an insane hybrid demon. Lewis still lives on Karthania, separated from his father and planning to marry. Then Jeremiah rapes his fiancé and kills Santa Claus' wife.

Author Jay Kraxton weaves a chilling tale of horror and suspense in SAVAGE DAWN. Part two of the Red Dawn trilogy, SAVAGE DAWN escalates the danger to create a chilling tapestry of good and evil. With graphic violence and sexual content, SAVAGE DAWN is not the faint of heart; however, these graphic sections are entirely within the scope of artistic content, necessitated by the very nature of the evil portrayed. Each strand of the plot reveals a chilling tapestry of cruelty and evil, with the Red Thunder the only hope against a vast demon army. The deftly drawn characterizations, particularly that of the descent of Rajah and Jeremiah into the depths of madness of depravity, will hold the reader's interest riveted to the very last page. A powerfully rendered tale that will leaves more than ready for the final book of the series, SAVAGE DAWN comes very highly recommended.

Words Of Praise For JAY KRAXTON
Jay--

I wanted to let you know how VERY MUCH I enjoyed reading your first two novels of Red Thunder. As you know, I came to hear about them when we started working together, and I'm so glad I did! I have been out of college for about 6 years, and honestly hadn't really picked up a book since the end of college. I've read up on the news and such in magazines and kept up on the latest in my field, but really hadn't picked up a book for enjoyment in a long time. After talking to you and reading the back cover of your first book, "A Legend Untold" I was curious...

So, I bought the book from you and thought, "I'll give it a try!" Well, I read the book from cover to cover in about 1 week. The only reason it took me that long was b/c I work 2 jobs and didn't have the time I WANTED to keep reading! As soon as I read the first few pages, I was hooked! I had to MAKE myself put it down so that I could get some sleep before going to work the next day! Your writing kept me on the "edge of my seat" wanting to know what was going to happen next! The excellent detail you use to describe everything from the characters, to the events -- the way they feel to what they smell and see ~ I felt like I was actually watching this happen to someone! Both of the first two books in the Red Thunder series made me laugh, cry and eagerly anticipate what could possibly happen next! I have told almost everyone I know who reads to pick up your books! I do think you have to like the "fantasy" type novel, but for someone who hasn't read a book in YEARS, you kept me intrigued with each page...

I think you are very skilled in what you do! You have an amazing talent of making the reader actually FEEL like they are some other being in the story who is watching and experiencing the events first hand. I sometimes felt as though I needed to keep quiet and still and maybe even duck so I didn't get noticed and overtaken by the demons!!!! I laughed with the characters, felt scared for them, angry with them and anxious to find out what was hiding behind the next corner or dark night! I can only hope that I never get kidnapped and taken to the evil place where the demons lurk (Armagon), b/c I would certainly not have the strength or courage that Louis or Ken have!

It's amazing how much I actually feel like I know these people and want to do something to help them! I look forward to the final "chapter" of Red Thunder as well as beginning the new series "Souls In Glass!" Keep up the good work and keep in touch so I can get ahold of a copy as soon as possible! I am definitely a fan and will continue to read and truly enjoy your writing for years to come!

Thanks for sharing your talent! You are truly one of the GREAT authors of our generation!!!! And those to come!!! :)
